I.
It is a pleasure to acquire and own good art. I would like to stand by your side so that you discover the right art for you. Together we will develop your individual collection concept and define goals, budget and procedure. We can stroll through the art world together, visit galleries, fairs and auctions, or I can make you a tailor-made offer to enrich your life and home with first-class works of art.
II.
Collecting art enriches life. However, successful art collecting requires understanding the market mechanisms and mastering the written and unwritten rules of the art market. From my experience-saturated perspective, the following must be considered before purchasing an object so that art can create lasting values:
1. Check the subjective quality of experience of the work of art!
Look at a work of art, let it affect you and ask yourself what quality of experience it has for you? Your subjectively pronounced feeling for art decides on the individual quality of experience of a work of art for you personally. Does the object affect you emotionally and intellectually? How intense is the quality of experience?
2. What objective quality criteria does the work of art meet?
Examine all five quality criteria (craftsmanship, beauty, degree of innovation, desire for art, worthy of discussion) that objectively characterize good art. What criteria does the work of art meet? How do you weight the different quality criteria? Which ones must be fulfilled?
3. Evaluate the value creation perspective of the artwork from the perspective of the market players!
Estimate the current market value and the future market price development in perspective. What relevance does the artist have for the art world and the specific work of art for the artist’s overall work? How will the players in the art market react to his oeuvre and influence pricing in the foreseeable future? What market prospects result from this?
4. What is the potential for increasing the value of the art genre of the work of art, taking into account the era in which it was created?
Which art genres and epochs appeal to you? Which value increase potentials are foreseeable for the genre of the work of art? Are you interested in building a collection that spans genres and eras, or would you like to specialize in a narrowly defined field? Ask yourself what role the dynamic field of digital art should play for your collection in the future. Do you want to focus on analog or digital art, or collect hybrid?
5. Define your collection strategy and evaluate whether the work enriches your collection!
Does the artwork correspond to your collection concept? Does it complement the collection’s portfolio in a meaningful way? Determine the alternative costs: Even the wealthy collector can only spend each dollar once. If you decide on one work, you may not have the budget for the next, alternative purchase that could be waiting for you tomorrow.
